As an Exercise and Sports Physician, patients often consult me with injuries and pains that they have sustained following some exercises. It is now well recognized that the sedentary lifestyle of 21st century necessitates dedicated fitness and strength training for all individuals and not just athletes. Whereas most athletes have some professional to guide them, the common man often does not. It is important to understand that exercise is a form of stress to the body and can be dangerous if done incorrectly or in more than excess proportions. People often perform exercises with the intention of getting fitter but hurt themselves in this process. In order to avoid this, it is crucial that everyone should follow a ‘scientifically designed exercise program’.
